Ronnie Mitchell's baby swap storyline in EastEnders appealed to an audience of nearly 9m on New Year's Day.The tragic plot, which was toned down by executives, grabbed 8.95m (31.5%) at 8.30pm in an unusual Saturday evening timeslot.BBC Three's repeat of the episode - which saw the grieving Ronnie steal Kat and Alfie's child - added 562k (2.2%) at 10pm.
