Several EastEnders writers didn’t want to use cot death storyline

The storm of controversy surrounding the EastEnders cot death/baby swap storyline is showing no sign if calming down.
Even before the storyline aired on TV people were complaining about the plot that saw Ronnie Branning lose her baby to cot death and then swap her child with Kat Moon’s child.
So far thousands of people have registered their disgust with the BBC, as well as venting their rage about the very sensitive story on various website forums.
Today it was reported that actress Samantha Womack, who plays Ronnie, was quitting the soap in May because of the storyline. The BBC have now confirmed that Sam is indeed leaving the soap, but they’ve tellingly played down the suggestions that her departure has anything to do with the recent events on the show.
Now a source (there’s always one blabbermouth, isn’t there?) has revealed that several writers on the programme didn’t want to use the storyline. Take this with a big pinch of salt, but apparently, “There are plenty of people on the set who have children and they have been utterly shocked. But some of those who were pushing the storyline do not have children themselves and don’t seem to realise the effect it’s having on people. Many felt they can’t relate to how shocked parents are feeling.”
Will the public outcry over EastEnders ever die down, only time will tell.
