EastEnders Fans Hit Out Over Cot Death Plot

The New Year's Eve episode showed Ronnie discovering that her son, James, had died and wandering about Albert Square in a daze.

It finished with her upstairs at the Queen Vic, deciding whether to swap her dead baby with Kat's son Tommy before anyone else finds out what has happened to James.
The BBC One soap is famous for its miserable plots, but many fans discussing the episode on Twitter thought producers had gone too far this time.
Ben_Jardine tweeted: 'WTF are EastEnders writers doing? Plumbing new depths. Whoever wrote this story must be young, childless and trying too hard. Shame on you.'

The sentiment was echoed by estherella1, who said: 'Don't like the Eastenders storyline of Ronnie's baby dying and then swapping him with Kat's. It's sick, why can't anyone on that show be happy!'
There were very few dissenting voices among EastEnders fans, with references to a 'sick' storyline commonplace and many people suggesting writers had piled far too much misery on Ronnie, who has already been abused by her father, seen her daughter killed and suffered a miscarriage.
One fan, IrfaAhmed, did at least manage to keep a sense of humour about the well-publicised next step in the depressing storyline, tweeting: 'They didn't realise when Ben and Lauren were swapped, so I doubt they'll realise that the babies were.'
